New Dallas Office Will Serve Clients in Northwest Counties

Nov. 4, 2016 DALLAS, TEXAS — LASSA attorneys and staff have been serving clients in northwest Texas for months already, but in coming weeks, they will get a real home in an office on Mockingbird near Love Field.

For the next weeks, attorneys and staff will move in furniture and generally set up shop, getting ready for an open house likely to happen sometime in December. The new branch will include several attorneys and law school graduates as well as administrative staff.

Like other LASSA offices, the Dallas branch will provide survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence with free legal services, including general advice and representation in court. “It’s really difficult to get justice through the criminal justice system,” says Allison Schmitz, a LASSA attorney who will be the branch manager for the Dallas office. “The civil legal system provides an additional and effective tool.”

Collaborating with  rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters, LASSA also works in community outreach and education, and attorneys and legal staff have been active in the Dallas area and northwest counties. They’ve participated in several Dallas events, including domestic violence seminars sponsored by the Dallas Bar Association and a conference organized by Latinos Against Domestic Violence. In October, they also celebrated winning a favorable outcome for a client.
